Dementia Care Guide

There are many types of dementia but the most common is Alzheimer’s disease. The care that we offer is person-centred. In other words we look at the individual; their unique qualities, abilities, interests, choices and needs. We know that providing excellent care can make a huge difference to dementia sufferers, so we aim to provide not only a comfortable and secure environment, but also one that is stimulating and rewarding and preserves and enhances our Residents’ life skills. One way that we do this is through reminiscence. By triggering and exploring memories of the past we build self-confidence and most importantly we aim to keep Residents engaged and communicating.

We are proud of the quality of the care we provide and we have our own rigorous inspection and quality control processes to ensure it is maintained. Naturally, all of our Homes are also regulated by the appropriate public authorities.

What types of Dementia Care are available?

We have a range of Homes around the country offering different types of care and it is likely that we have a Home near you that provides the care that you are looking for. Depending on the level of dementia we can offer care in our Residential or Nursing Homes or in our specialist units with experienced and highly trained staff as well as adapted facilities.

What to expect from us

  • Our fully trained Carers assist with or provide personal care around the clock which may include help with washing or bathing, dressing, dining, mobility and other areas of care individual to you as required
  • All homes have a programme of activities – individual or group, and many Homes have a dedicated Activities Co-ordinator who gets to know our Residents including their hobbies and pastimes to ensure the activities reflect their preferences
  • Nutritious and tasty meals are prepared by an experienced Chef or cook on the premises and we cater for individual dietary requirements. Our Residents have a direct input into the menu planning for their Home
  • Laundry staff ensure that there is always a fresh supply of linen and personal clothing
  • Bedrooms, like all areas of our Homes are homely, fresh, clean, comfortable and can be personalised to ensure it becomes your home

Respecting the individual

Our Residents remain involved in making decisions about their lives and naturally we consult widely and involve the relevant professional people, relatives and friends to ensure that before moving into our care we agree an individual Care Plan. This Plan takes into account their needs and personal preferences and aims to encourage and maintain their unique strengths and abilities.

A fulfilling life

We recognise that people with dementia often feel vulnerable and in need of reassurance. They need to retain a sense of identity and self-worth. As well as encouraging them to maintain relationships with their family and friends outside the Home we also offer carefully planned activities that they can take part in if they wish. This also offers Residents the opportunity to spend time together and get to know one another.
